For a first haircut or a squirmy toddler, that means going slow, letting them sit on a parent's lap if that's more comfortable, and stopping if we need to reset rather than pushing through. For an older kid or teen who just wants to get back outside, it means moving efficiently without feeling rushed or careless about the actual cut.

There's no hard rule about when a toddler needs their first haircut — plenty of parents wait well past their child's second birthday, and there's no medical or developmental reason to rush it. It's really a judgment call based on how much hair they have, whether it's getting in their eyes, and whether the child will tolerate sitting still for it.
